Posted by Categories: Creativity

NSGT’s Search for Creative Talent | National Society for the Gifted and Talented (NSGT)Today’s challenging world requires all the complex human capabilities we can generate in our youth. The National Society for the Gifted and Talented (NSGT) and Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG) remain dedicated to encouraging creative thinking and creative problem solving in our gifted, talented, and creative youth. As such we have added an avenue of eligibility in creative thinking for entrance into all SIG programs.

Additionally, NSGT/SIG is committed to helping students learn more about their creative strengths through a nationally-normed assessment. We will invite 35 eligible students to take the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking in Stamford, CT on Saturday, March 11, 9:45 AM – 11:00 AM, free of charge. Participants not only will have the opportunity to learn more about their creative abilities, those in this round of testing will vie for $4,000 in SIG summer scholarships funds.

Eligible students, currently ages 10-14, are invited to apply to participate. To demonstrate eligibility students must have one educator submit SIG’s creative thinking eligibility form by Feb. 21, 2017 March 7, 2017 to be considered for participation.

Here are the details:

  • Testing will be conducted on March 11, 2017 at 5 High Ridge Park, Stamford, CT 06905.
  • Registration will be 9:45 AM – 10:00 AM with testing immediately following.
  • Testing will end between 10:45 AM and 11:00 am.

During testing, parents are welcome to attend an informational session on SIG programs. Tests results take 3-6 weeks to receive. Scholarship funds will be awarded soon after results are received. Parents will receive individual reports on their children.

The test is fun! There are no right or wrong responses! If you are within driving distance, we invite you to apply for this free opportunity and learn more about your creative strengths.

My boys live in Gilbert, AZ. Is there a way ti do remote testing?

    • Barbara Swicord, Ed.D. says:

Hi Liliana! At this time we unfortunately are not offering remote testing! We hope you’ll keep checking back for any future opportunities.

  2. Tanya Huffman says:

I live in Madison Heights, VA and would like my son tested for the gifted and talented. How do I go about doing that?

    • Barbara Swicord, Ed.D. says:

Hi Tanya! Does your son attend public or private school? If public, typically testing is run through the local school district and they have specific timelines during the year. Another option is to find a psychologist who does intelligence testing. There are also some online tests students can take.

If your son is attempting to get into a certain gifted and talented program in your district, that program should provide screening and they should know what is required in terms of eligibility to enroll.
